Diwata Komiks Titles Are Finally Coming to The Philippines!

Still energized from a fantastic reception at WonderCon 2022 in Anaheim California, Diwata Komiks, the fan-favorite Filipino-American indie comics company with its flagship title Carmina, is finally coming to the Philippines exclusively through Comic Odyssey. Philippines-based fans can now reserve their copies at comic-odyssey.com/reservations – find the announcement on their Facebook page.

Diwata Komiks was founded by Emmy-Award Winner Mark A.J. Nazal who hails from a comics television background with credits such as Gotham (Fox) and Lucifer (Netflix) along with partners, Fil-Am Community Leader Joe Arciaga, Actress/Writer/Producer Erica Juliet, and emerging Filipino Komiks Artist, Roland Amago

Diwata Komiks and Carmina: A Filipino-American Urban Mythology™ launched in October 2021 to critical acclaim for expanding on storytelling diversity with its unique fusion of Philippine Mythology and Urban Americana as featured in Comic Book Resources, The Asian Journal, When In Manila, The Philippine Star, and The Aswang Project. The Diwata Komiks team has received Certificates of Recognition from the US House of Representatives, the California Senate and Legislature, the County of Los Angeles, and the Cities of Los Angeles and Carson,  along with successful exhibitions at the world-famous San Diego Comic-Con and LA Comic-Con and signings at top comic book stores in California.

Apart from telling Filipino-American stories, the company also aims to showcase Filipino stories and creators to the North-American comics market with the standardization and remasters of award-winning Filipino Komiks Carnal Tales and Darahug – rebranded for their U.S. Editions as Carnal Tales: Cautionary Tales From A Filipino Childhood and Darahug: A Visayan Folk-Horror Tale.

Furthermore, to create a solid strategic partnership with Filipino creatives as the startup enters its next phase, Diwata Komiks is proud to announce the appointment of Bambi Eloriaga-Amago, based in Manila, as the first Regional Manager.

For American readers, the 2nd issue of Carmina titled ‘The Wrathborn Goddess’ will begin preorders this year to much anticipation with limited first prints available at the team’s next signing event at the iconic Golden Apple Comics in Hollywood on Wednesday, May 11.
