Press Release

Los Angeles, CA (March 30, 2023) – Diwata Komiks, the diversity-focused comics publishing arm of SurrealArts LLC, is proud to announce that former entertainment industry nonprofit Executive Walter Talens joins the team as their new Creative Partner and Supervising Producer.

WALTER TALENS

Creative Partner and Supervising Producer

“As a company founded on the values of diversity and community-building, we’re excited to be working with Walter on further engaging our audience looking to see themselves in the stories they get to read.”

- Joe Arciaga, Co-Founder and Director of Community

Talens brings with him years of community experience in his previous roles as former President and VP at FilAm Creative, a Los Angeles-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to the advancement of Filipino Americans in Film and Television. His tenure at the emerging AAPI organization brought together a new generation of talent and award-winning creative leaders that continue to make an impact in their respective communities today. Furthermore, he lent his multimedia expertise to producing two successful podcasts that highlighted the contributions of AAPI creatives in various entertainment fields and pop culture.

A US Army Combat Veteran, Walter brings with him a level of discipline to balance creative endeavors with proven results that would bring immense value to help direct the creative startup already making waves in the local and international comics scene. Co-Founded by Primetime Emmy® Award winner Mark A.J. Nazal, Diwata Komiks looks to expand its slate of Intellectual Property to other media formats under the group’s SurrealArts Studios brand, further emphasizing the significance of this strategic partnership. “As a company founded on the values of diversity and community-building, we’re excited to be working with Walter on further engaging our audience looking to see themselves in the stories they get to read,” says Co-Founder and Director of Community, Joe Arciaga.

Talens’ first project at Diwata Komiks will be to produce the company’s highly-anticipated community project, New Icons: A Filipino-American Comics Anthology. New Icons looks to showcase characters and stories from outstanding individuals in the community and encourage more diverse voices from our underrepresented communities.
